Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hyperliquid?
Hyperliquid is a decentralized perpetual contract exchange (DEX) built on its own dedicated Layer 1. It uses a fully on-chain order book model, combining the speed and liquidity of centralized exchanges while retaining the non-custodial and transparent properties of DeFi.
How are trading fees and gas fees calculated?
There are no gas fees for placing, canceling, or matching orders on Hyperliquid. You only need to pay a one-time L2 fee when bridging funds from Arbitrum to this network. Takers pay a very low fixed fee, while makers are completely free and may even earn rebates.
Can I use Hyperliquid on mobile?
Yes. Although Hyperliquid does not have a standalone native app listed on the App Store or Google Play, its mobile web interface is deeply optimized for responsiveness. Simply open the official Hyperliquid website in your mobile Web3 wallet's built-in browser (e.g., MetaMask, Trust Wallet, TokenPocket) for a smooth, app-like trading experience.
Is my money safe?
Security is our top priority. Hyperliquid is fully non-custodial, meaning only you hold your wallet's private keys. All order matching, liquidation mechanisms, and margin systems are enforced by transparent on-chain code, with no institution able to misappropriate your assets.
Is Hyperliquid non-custodial? How are assets protected?
Yes, it is completely non-custodial. All deposits, settlements, and liquidations are executed through on-chain smart contracts and consensus mechanisms. Even if the Hyperliquid frontend goes down, assets cannot be misappropriated by any centralized team. Additionally, the platform features a robust on-chain liquidation mechanism and an insurance fund to manage auto-deleveraging risks during extreme market conditions, protecting counterparties.
How are fees charged on Hyperliquid?
Hyperliquid's fee structure is very friendly for high-frequency traders and liquidity providers: Maker fee: 0% (with negative fee rebates during certain incentive campaigns). Taker fee: fixed at 0.025%. Gas: Users do not need to buy or pay native gas tokens; all trading fees and network gas costs are included in those minimal trading fees.
What is HLOS (Hyperliquid Operating System)?
HLOS is Hyperliquid's full-stack Web3 operating system. It not only includes the decentralized exchange but also supports users in deploying native spot assets (Spot) on its L1, creating HIP-1 and HIP-2 standard tokens. This means Hyperliquid is evolving from a pure derivatives exchange into a complete decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem hub.
Why can't I find a traditional Market Order option on Hyperliquid?
This is a common misconception. To prevent users from suffering excessive slippage, Hyperliquid's "market order" is technically implemented as a limit order with rapid slippage protection. When you click "Buy/Long" or "Sell/Short," the system automatically matches the best available price, providing the experience of a market order with added safety.
